This is the amazing bread you get at an Italian restaurant, simplified and bottomless! It’s fluffy, crispy, salty, and stress-free.
If I’m at a restaurant that serves focaccia bread, I might as well not even bother ordering an entree. I WILL get full on this bread every chance I get! If you’re the same way, you need a great homemade recipe. This is my absolute favorite – the dough only needs one hour to rise, there are less than ten ingredients, the bread always comes out perfectly fluffy and crispy, and it always gets loads of compliments! If you need to plan a meal for guests, I highly recommend serving this bread with my vegan penne alla vodka!
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp vegan butter
- 5 tbsp olive oil (divided)
- 3 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 2/3 cup warm water
- sea salt and fresh rosemary, for topping
Method:
- Grease a 9×13 baking dish with the vegan butter, then drizzle a tbsp of olive oil over the butter.
- Combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large bowl.
- Add the warm water and 2 tbsp olive oil, and gently combine until a dough forms.
- Pour the dough into the baking dish. Don’t try to spread it out, let it stay where it lands. Cover and let rise for one hour.
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F/220 degrees C.
- Dip your fingers in olive oil. Spread the dough to fill the baking dish, then gently press into it to make holes everywhere without pushing through.
- Drizzle 2 tbsp of olive oil over the dough, then top with sea salt and fresh rosemary.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cut into squares, and dip in olive oil or a garlic dip. Serve with your favorite pasta. Enjoy & share!
