Tofu Fries

Make these fries for all the tofu-skeptics in your life – they will be shocked and amazed!

I put this on my list of recipes to try SO long ago. I have been extremely skeptical about them – I thought there would be no way to get a satisfying, fry-like texture and flavor using tofu, but I couldn’t have been more wrong! The fact that this recipe only takes about 30 minutes is dangerous – they are delicious and just as addicting as regular fries! The texture is incredibly satisfying, and the combination of spices makes me feel like I’m sitting at McDonald’s and I’m about to ask for a refill. BONUS: these fries are protein-packed!

Ingredients:

  • 16-oz block super firm tofu
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp flour of choice
  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • salt

Method:

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F/200 degrees C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Cut the tofu into fry-sized pieces. Gently toss with the olive oil. (That’s right – the tofu does not need to be pressed!)
  • Combine the remaining ingredients (minus the salt) in a small bowl. Add to the tofu & gently toss.
  • Lay the tofu strips out on the baking sheet in a single layer. Sprinkle the tofu with your desired amount of salt.
  • Bake for 20-22 minutes, flipping and salting again at the halfway mark.
  • Serve with your favorite dips. Enjoy & share!
