Teriyaki Tofu

YUM! This sauce is nothing short of fantastic! It gives the tofu a wonderfully classic flavor, and this is an easy 30-minute recipe!

This was one of the first recipes I ever made with tofu! Like a lot of people, I never cooked with or knew much about tofu before I stopped eating meat. So for my first few tries with it, I needed the recipes to be simple. This one is as simple as can be! It showed me how easy it is to make tofu taste like… not nothing! Tofu itself has little to no flavor, but it absorbs sauces like a champ. This teriyaki is sweet, salty, savory, and gives the tofu a rich, delicious flavor. All in just about 30 minutes!

Ingredients:

  • 14 oz block extra firm tofu
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium vegetable stock
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ginger

Method:

  • Press the tofu for 15 minutes. Pat off excess moisture, then slice it into 1/2″ cubes. My favorite tofu press is the Tofuture – it’s so simple to use, and I can throw it in the dishwasher when I’m done.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the tofu pieces and cook for 5-10 minutes or until done to your liking, flipping and tossing occasionally.
  • While the tofu is cooking, add all of the remaining ingredients to a mixing bowl and whisk thoroughly.
  • Lower the heat to medium-low, add the sauce to the tofu, and stir to combine. Watching closely, cook for another 3-5 minutes or until the sauce is thick and the tofu is all completely coated.
  • Serve over rice with veggies, green onions, and sesame seeds. Enjoy & share!

Teriyaki Tofu

This sauce is, in my opinion, better than any store-bought teriyaki sauce! It's delicious on so many things, tofu being my favorite, and it's very simple to make.
