Vegan French Onion Dip

I love love loved french onion dip before I was vegan, and I love love love it now just the same! This is my trusty, identical replication of the french onion dip I used to love!

I have always been the biggest fan of french onion dip! It’s the perfect shareable for family holidays, game days, and get-togethers, and it’s my favorite for getting lost in a reality show binge and eating six servings of chips and dip all by myself! 🤣 Plus, I thought it would be tough to create that classic french onion flavor at home, but it’s actually so easy to replicate and veganize! This recipe gets it to the exact flavor and consistency as the kind I used to know and love, and it’s a total crowd pleaser.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp vegan butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 3/4 cup vegan mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 cup plain vegan yogurt
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 3/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp ground sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper

Note:

I used Veganaise plain mayo, Foragers plain yogurt, and Earth Balance butter.

Method:

  • Mince the onion as finely as you can.
  • Melt the vegan butter over medium-low heat in a small saucepan or skillet. Add the minced onion and cook until translucent and slightly browned, about 10-15 minutes.
  • Add all of the ingredients, including the onion, to a mixing bowl and combine. Let cool and thicken in the fridge for at least one hour, but preferably overnight.
  • Serve with potato chips and carrot dogs. Enjoy & share!
