This caramel sauce is a blend of four common ingredients, and the flavor is incredible!
Caramel sauce is something I said goodbye to when I stopped eating animal products, and hello again when I made this recipe for the first time! I have tried other recipes in the past that included ingredients I had to make a special trip to a special store for, and I wouldn’t know what to do with the leftovers. The end result was always good, but not good enough to make it worth the hassle. This recipe has four simple, common, easy to find ingredients, and it really tastes like classic caramel sauce!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups pitted dates
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 – 1 cup plant milk
Note:
I suggest using almond, soy, or oat milk to avoid unwanted flavors.
Method:
- Bring 3 cups of water to a boil. Turn off the heat, add the dates, and let soak for 10 minutes.
- Drain the dates and add all ingredients to a high-powered blender. Blend until smooth. Start with 1/2 cup of milk and add more until it reaches your desired consistency.
- Serve over ice cream, overnight oats, as a dip for apples, or whatever you want (I love topping it with some sea salt and dipping granny smith apples)! Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 10 days. Enjoy & share!
